Player X's geekTV™ nominated for Best Content Award at Meffys

Mobile media company Player X's mobile TV channel geekTV, has been nominated for the Best Content category in the Meffys Mobile Entertainment Awards 2007.

The award category highlights latest in mobile content applications including video, animation and other forms of original content designed for mobile where the judges were looking for applications that help drive the take-up of rich media content. Player X has been nominated for this prestigious award along with four other companies and the winner will be announced at the on 5th June, 2007 during the Mobile Entertainment Market in Monte Carlo.

Pioneering made-for-mobile content, geekTV is a mixture of well-known entertainment brands such as Miami Vice, Dom Joly and Hot Fuzz, original IP and user-generated content that appeals to the important 16-to-30-year-old demographic. The channel is updated weekly andsubscribers can use the EPG to start and pause at their favourite shows wherever they choose.

"There is a huge amount of mobile content out there and it's a massive honour to be one of only five companies to have been nominated for the Best Content award. We believe we have something special with geekTV and this nomination is a tribute to the amount of work we've put into realising our vision of how mobile TV channels should be delivered,” said Tony Pearce, Player X CEO.

The nomination follows geekTV’s success since its launch in December 2006 on 3 UK and the O2 i-mode channel and underlines the proactive moves Player X is making in the mobile TV and video space. Earlier this month the company announced an exclusive deal with Aardman Animations to distribute its premium mobile video content in North America and has signed deals in territories as diverse as America, Australia, India and Brazil to deliver its made-for-mobile TV channels.

Player X has invested heavily in the mobile video space and recently announced a ground-breaking deal with Universal Mobile Entertainment for making mobile Retrosodes™ of 1970s TV shows Knight Rider and Magnum P.I. - the first time a Hollywood studio has allowed its content to be used in such a way.
